What our patients say

“After years of suffering from osteoarthritis that kept me awake at night, I received a total shoulder replacement. It’s like night and day. The constant pain vanished almost instantly after surgery. I can finally reach up to comb my hair and have returned to gardening without any restrictions.”
Total Shoulder Prosthesis
“I was predicted to recover completely after 9 to 12 months. It's only been 6 months and my shoulder has completely healed. It was as if my tendon had never been torn. This doctor is truly exceptional.”
Tendon repair
“I was told my rotator cuff was irreparable and I would never play golf again. Dr. Beauchamp performed a reverse shoulder prosthesis. Four months later, I was back on the course. The technical expertise here is unmatched; it’s an investment in my quality of life that I don’t regret for a second.”
Reverse Shoulder Prosthesis
“Not only is Dr. Beauchamp very professional as a surgeon, but it was for me an encounter with a very understanding and very human man. I am completely healed and very active again. I highly recommend it.”
Shoulder surgery
“Another doctor told me that my shoulder was damaged. Dr. Beauchamp told me that there was a difference between “screwed up” and “worn out.” Thanks to him, I started playing golf and curling again. His attitude and expertise immediately put me at ease.”
Shoulder rescue
“He is the first doctor to give me his cell phone number to follow the evolution of his work. I really felt I was in good hands. The post-operative follow-ups allowed me to appreciate his listening and his availability.”

FAQ

Common shoulder questions

How long is the recovery after a shoulder prosthesis?

It is a team effort. You should expect approximately 3 to 4 months to regain excellent function, though improvement continues for up to a year. The mechanical pain from osteoarthritis often disappears immediately after surgery. A protective sling is generally required for the first 4 weeks.

Will I be able to sleep on my shoulder again after surgery?

Yes This is one of the major benefits of the intervention. Once tissue healing has progressed (usually after 6 to 12 weeks), sleeping on your side becomes comfortable again.

Is the surgery done under general anesthesia?

Generally, we combine mild general anesthesia with a regional block (arm anesthesia). This allows for a comfortable awakening without immediate pain and a return home the same day (one-day surgery).

What is an inverted prosthesis?

It is a very effective solution for severe osteoarthritis associated with tendon tears. It changes the mechanics of the shoulder to make the deltoid muscle work in place of worn tendons, allowing the arm to be raised again.

Are the costs covered by the RAMQ?

No. As a non-participating private clinic, consultation and surgery costs are borne by the patient. However, most private insurances reimburse a portion of the consultation or imaging costs, and surgical expenses are eligible for tax credits for medical expenses.

What are the deadlines for getting an appointment?

It is our major strength. We aim for an initial telephone contact in less than 24 hours and a consultation with the surgeon within 48 to 72 working hours. Surgery can usually be scheduled in the following weeks.

Do I need a referral from my family doctor?

No. In private practice, you have direct access to our specialists. You don't have to wait months for a reference ticket before calling us.
